I have no idea where this appetite came from but I just got a sudden urge to have waffles from Waffle House. I haven’t eaten there since Oldsmobiles were new. I think there’s still one near the airport... maybe treat myself to a breakfast lunch in a sketchy environment. Wait, has Waffle House been gentrified at all? Is it even there still?

Waffle House is amazing.

The food is meh — greasy spoon stuff. Each individual item can be had better elsewhere. But nobody does all those things so well at once. 24 hours a day. Cooked right in front of you. Yet still maintaining decent health department scores and never making headlines for food poisoning (cough Jackinthebox Chipotle).

They put their eggs in a blender before making an omelet so it’s fluffier. Why would you go to that trouble? Because they can.

When you consider the logstics of restaurant operations, I don’t think anyone does it better. They’re building a brand new one in a semi-upscale grocery store parking lot near me. First new WH construction I’ve seen in almost 10 years.

Gentrified, sure. But most traditional locations are still at highways exits, so you get all that flavor that makes it so hipsterrific.

Tis a shitty waffle if it needs butter and/or syrup. Must be eating eggos or some crap made out of cardboard like that. Real homemade waffles with just a little bit of real maple syrup is certainly a good thing but no need to drown the thing.

I highly recommend it. I’d never watched any food shows until my girlfriend showed my Anthony Bourdain, now I’m looking for anything he’s hosted/produced.

Oh man, I watched a few episodes of that and couldn’t do it. I like dark, but I guess not that kind of dark. I go for the Scandinavian detective shows like “The Bridge” and “Trapped”

Yeah, his stuff is a lot more about the culture and interesting individuals. The shows are like travel-by-proxy.

The show definitely creeps me out, but also makes me think, deeply, about the future of our society. It’s very disturbing to think that some element of these shows will be in our future...

People would be lying if they said they didnt like butter and syrup. I mean if it wasnt absurdly unhealthy I would gladly eat a stick of butter and dunk it in some syrup lol. I understand what you mean though, the waffle is just a vessel by which to consume the good stuff at that point. I’m most certainly not a foodie as I am in love with ketchup on salty stuff. French fries just arent right without some ketchup. I stopped putting ketchup on steaks at least but im pretty addicted to the stuff!

I’m with you. I havent been in about 7 years but there is a super clean one (oxymoron i know) near my house but I haven’t got the will power to go in there yet. I loved the waffles last time i went though.
